College Credit Granted for Testing

Would you like to use your knowledge to quickly earn college credit and/or competency?

Most students satisfy requirements for General Education through selecting the appropriate course(s) in the specific area once they get to college. But you can choose to test out of a course and/or competency by taking a Competency test or passing a specific test offered through the College Level Education Program (CLEP) or an Advanced Placement (AP) exam.

Here are the differences between the three tests:

  • AP: This gives you the opportunity to earn college credit from courses and tests you have completed in high school. AP-Advance Placement Examination List 2012.

  • Credit by Exam: A test intended to establish that you have met minimum standards of skills and knowledge and are eligible to bypass a specified required course for graduation.  Credit-by-Exam Registration Form

  • CLEP: A test intended to establish that you have met minimum standards of skills and knowledge and are eligible to bypass a specified course that may or may not fulfill a requirement for graduation.  Review LIST of CLEP exams accepted for credit at Delta College.

  • International Baccalaureate: High school students may be able to receive credit through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. IB examination scores should be sent from the IB Office  directly to the Registrar's Office for evaluation.  Please see the  for the current credit awarded for specific IB examinations and scores. Additional IB course content and examinations are under review by departments.
