2015 Student Literary Competition

Deadline for Entries:  April 3, 2015, 4 p.m.

 

General Eligibility

Contestant must be enrolled in a "for credit" course at a Delta College. (Fall 2014 or Winter 2015.) Academic enrollment will be verified by the local coordinator. Entries must be original works written during student's enrollment in credit courses at the college.  Each entry must have a sponsoring faculty member.

Categories

  • Poetry (67 lines maximum)
  • Personal Essay (2500 words maximum) 
  • One Act Play (3500 words including stage directions and production notes) 
  •  Fiction (3500 words maximum)

Number of Submissions

Students may submit in all categories, but limit the number of submissions in each category:

  • Poetry - Up to 3 submissions
  • Personal Essay - 1 submission
  • One Act Play - 1 submission
  • Fiction - 1 submission

Formatting

Submission must meet all formatting requirements.  If the submission does not, it will not be entered into the competition.

  • Must be formatted for 8.5 x 11 paper.
  • Must be submitted electronically in either .docx, .doc, or .rtf format.
  • A cover page for each entry must include:
    • Author's Name
    • Home address and phone number
    • Institution (Delta College)
    • Title of Entry
    • Authors ID, school acronym and genre
      • example (11111111 - DC - Fiction)
  • Include in upper right corner of each page
    • Title of entry
    • Authors ID, school acronym and genre
      • example (11111111 - DC - Fiction)
    • Page number

Judging

 (Judges decisions are final.)

Local:  Each category will be judged by a team of Delta College English faculty.

National: In Each category, the judge is a nationally recognized writer.

Local Prizes: (Awarded in each category)
