Credit-By-Exam Information

The Delta College Testing Center (A133) offers Credit-By-Exam (CBE) in the following courses for students who want to earn credit or waive a course. Objective/information sheets are available online. Students must register and pay exam fee to schedule an appointment.

  • You may not be in the course and take credit-by-exam, for that course, at the same time.
  • Typically results take a minimum of two (2) to four (4) weeks. ENG111 results may take eight (8) weeks.
  • You will not receive a grade when you utilize credit-by-exam; only the credit is posted on your transcript.
  • Credit achieved may not transfer to other colleges and universities.

    Refer to the College Catalog, contact a Counselor/Academic Advisor and read the following before you drop a course.

    • You may receive an "E" on your transcript, if you do not withdraw (drop) the class.
      Refer to College Catalog Withdrawal and/or Dropping A Course.
    • You may not receive a refund of tuition paid. Refer to College Catalog Refund Policy.
    • It is the student's responsibility to make sure they have met required prerequisites before taking an exam. Refer to College Catalog "Course Descriptions" before registering for an exam.
    • You may receive a "W" on your transcript. Refer to College Catalog Grading System.

Additional Information

Exam Fee
Students must choose one option (credit or waiver). Option cannot be changed once exam has been taken. Financial Aid cannot be used for Credit-By-Exam fees.

  • Credit Option: $25 per credit hour attempted.
  • Waiver Option: $20 per course (EXCEPTION: there is NO FEE for OAT 170)

Validity Statement

I understand:

  • Submitting incorrect information will result in denial and cancellation of my test results, also denial and cancellation of any credits or waivers posted to my Delta College transcript.
  • If I access or view any computer screens or resources other than the exam itself, the exam will be stopped and given a failing grade/score.
  • I can only take this exam one time.  Retesting Credit-by-Exam is not allowed.  If this is a required course for my curriculum, I understand that I will need to take the course if I do not achieve a passing grade/score on this exam.
  • I am not allowed to view the exam neither before nor after testing, only during the actual test session.
  • At all times the exam is property of Delta College Testing Center.

Identification & Check-In
Students must present a valid government issued photo ID (example: driver’s license) at check-in. Check-in no later than scheduled exam appointment time. Students must be on time. Late arrivals will not be allowed to test. No food, drinks, electronic communication devices, personal calculators, guests, children and/or pets are allowed in the testing room.

Retest
Exams may be taken only once per course. Retesting is not allowed.

Reschedule Fee
If for any reason you can not attend your scheduled exam, you must call (989) 686-9182 at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to reschedule.

1st time you reschedule the exam: No charge
Each additional time you reschedule the exam: $25 fee

Refunds
Requests must be made in writing and attached to the Credit-By-Exam Application. Refund requests will only be honored if the student cancels prior to the day of the exam for which they are registered. All approved refund requests will be subject to a $5 processing fee.

Results
Results take a minimum of two (2) to four (4) weeks; ENG111 could take up to eight (8) weeks. If the exam you are taking is required for graduation, validation, etc. schedule accordingly so that you are able to meet that deadline.

Alternative Methods of Earning College Credits

CLEP Exam: National standardized exams in selected areas. Get credit for what you’ve learned.
Credit-By-Portfolio:
Submit a portfolio application, resume, manuscript and supporting documentation of your prior learning.
Credit-By-Training:
Process where you earn academic credit for Delta College Training Programs.
DSST Test:
DANTES Subject Standardized Tests. An alternative to classroom experience.

Please note:

  • The alternate methods are not available in all areas of study.
  • Credit(s) earned may not be transferable to other institutions.
  • Alternate methods are not eligible for financial aid.
  • You may apply only once for credit in the same course.
