Delta College Mathematics Division
Calculator Policies & Procedures
Calculator Usage
Calculator usage is determined by the outcomes and objectives for the course. The emphasis is on an additional graphical method to solve a problem, not an alternative method to replace the algebraic method or numerical calculation. Calculators are not necessarily intended for use on all tests. Some tests may include no calculator usage depending on the course (usually in developmental courses). Some tests may be two parts: one part with no calculator usage allowed and one part with calculator usage. Upper level course tests may allow complete calculator usage. Calculator usage on tests is at the discretion of the instructor based on the outcomes and objectives for the course. MATH 119 through MTH 264 courses require the student to rent or purchase some type of graphing calculator (see the table below for details based on course), therefore significant use of the calculator should be occurring in your class to warrant your investment.
Calculator Rental Procedure
Pay your rental fee (non-refundable users fee) at the cashier’s window located in the southwest main hall next to registration. User fees are $25.00 for a TI-83 or TI-84 and $40.00 for a TI-89 graphing calculator. The Math Division has approximately 100 calculators and they are rented on a first come, first serve basis. Bring your cashier’s receipt, ALONG WITH YOUR DELTA STUDENT ID to Delta's library (Circulation Desk) to obtain a rental calculator. Financial aid may be used to rent a graphing calculator. This is a non-refundable, per semester user fee. Calculators are due back at the end of the semester. Failure to return the calculator will result in overdue fines and a hold will put on the student's records and registration rights.
