Governor Whitmer announced new restrictions in response to a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Michigan. The State and local health departments have ordered all college classes to move to remote learning beginning at 12:01am, November 18.
Delta College recently announced it would be closing its facilities and moving the majority of classwork online for the remainder of the fall semester after being alerted to a heightened risk projected after the Thanksgiving holiday. Due to the new restrictions, this plan will now be accelerated to begin on November 18.
The plan for Winter 2021
Academic courses for all Delta College locations will start as scheduled for the winter 2021 semester; but for the first three weeks, winter courses will be delivered via online instruction with exceptions in health occupations and some business and technology classes such as automotive. Instructors will contact any students with on campus activities via Delta email prior to the first on campus date.
Depending upon local and regional trends in COVID cases, County Health Department recommendations, and continued communication with Bay, Saginaw and Midland County Health Departments, face-to-face (on-campus) instruction may begin for blended sections, laboratory courses, skilled trades and others on or after Saturday, January 30. Faculty in blended sections will contact those students via Delta email prior to the first on campus date.
Delta will continue to follow directives from the Bay County Health Department in response to the pandemic, in an attempt to keep faculty, staff and students safe. As decisions are made, we will work diligently to ensure the Delta community is notified.
Additional Details
- Faculty are looking at ways to complete student labs, experiential learning, etc. and will be communicating this information to students.
- Some courses may need to continue until completion in areas of health professions, skilled trades and other training such as the Police Academy.
- As of November 18, access to campus will occur through one entrance for students and visitors (east side of the Pioneer Gym, by Public Safety), where health screener employees will be located.
- Athletic programs will be paused and will be evaluated by Wednesday, December 9, with further guidance from the local health department. If you are interested, the new restrictions are available on the MDHHS website.
Student Services Updates
- The Fitness and Recreation Center will welcome back members starting Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Delta will continue to follow the advice of regional health officials for further changes.
- The Library, T/LC and WRIT Center will continue to provide remote services. All students can make appointments to pick up a reserve item, lab kit, calculator or library book. All students can also make an appointment to use library computers or study tables. The Testing Center will continue to provide remote ACCUPLACER testing by appointment.
- The Bookstore will continue in-person shopping by appointment only. Please check special hours for in-store shopping at delta.edu/bookstore. Visit the Bookstore’s website for updates and hours of operation.
COVID-19 cases
Delta College will report confirmed cases of employees and registered students who have physically been on one of our properties within the past 14 days.
These cases are confirmed positive cases for current Delta students, faculty and staff. Unless specifically noted, they are not indicative of an outbreak currently taking place at Delta College.
