2.085 Employee Initiated Separation From Employment

For the purpose of clarity, retirement and resignation have been organized into this single area of Employee Initiated Separation from Employment. Except for employees who have chosen the ORP (Optional Retirement Plan), when employees of Delta retire, they, in reality, are retiring from the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System and separating from Delta College employment. Therefore, an employee who wishes to separate from his/her employment at Delta College should address a letter indicating this to the President of the College and submit a copy to his/her immediate supervisor.

    1. Retirement
      1. Assembly members may retire at any age as long as they meet the eligibility requirements of their retirement plan.
      2. Assembly members with seven or more years of experience at Delta College will be granted emeritus status commencing with their effective date of retirement. For emeritus teaching assignments, see Senate Policy 3.075 Emeritus Employment.
      3. It is recommended that employees start to work with the Office of Retirement Services and Human Resources Office at least three months prior to their proposed retirement date.
      4. Given due consideration to the smooth operation of the College, it is requested that employees give as much notice as possible. To that end:
        1. Faculty are requested to retire at the end of a semester or session unless they receive approval from the College President to retire at a different time.
        2. Administrative/Professional and Support Staff are requested to retire at the end of the fiscal year unless they receive approval from the College President to retire at a different time.
    2. Resignation
Given due consideration to the smooth operation of the College, it is requested that employees give as much notice as possible.
