3.030 Degree Equivalency

- Prerequisite
In order to be considered for a degree equivalency, the Faculty member must first have been granted an associate’s and/or bachelor’s degree at a nationally recognized, regionally or nationally accredited institution. Any approved equivalency applies to promotion, tenure, and the Faculty salary schedule. If equivalency is granted while holding an associate’s degree, continued advancement toward an approved bachelor’s degree, through an established advancement plan, is required for continued advancement and employment. - Requirements
In addition to the above pre-requisite, the Faculty member must meet all requirements within this section. Any exceptions to the requirements identified below, must be approved by the appropriate discipline (if that discipline exists on campus), the Academic Council, and recommended through appropriate offices to the College President.- The following minimum requirements will be fulfilled:
- The Faculty member will have sufficient work-related experience as determined by the members of the discipline and division.
- Two years’ Delta teaching experience.
- Display a diversity of background appropriate to the discipline assignment, which
will be evaluated by the appropriate discipline Faculty and all tenured division members.
The above will be submitted by the candidate according to D. stated below.
- In addition to fulfilling the minimum requirements, the Faculty member must meet division
requirements which indicate the candidate has:
- A level of competency in the appropriate discipline equal to holding a degree (or pre-approved equivalency) to the degree being equated.
- An understanding of educational learning processes.
- The ability to relate to students and colleagues.
- A two-thirds majority of the Faculty of the division and (for existing disciplines) of the Faculty in the discipline must approve the equivalency.
- At a minimum, Faculty members shall submit prior relevant experience as follows:
- Actual number of months employed for each relevant employer.
- Name and address of each relevant employer.
- Name of immediate superior at each relevant employer and/or job location.
- Title of job assignment.
- Description of the job (e.g.: specific duties; equipment operated, maintained, repaired; certifications, licenses, endorsements obtained, etc.).
- List of all promotions received.
Experience must be verified by letter or telephone conversation with the Faculty member’s prior relevant employer or direct supervisor.
