The skills you’ve gained through work or life experiences can help you earn your degree faster!
At Delta, we give credit where credit is due. Through Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) students can earn academic credit for the knowledge they already have.
“There are people that have already completed a portion of their degree but don’t know it,” says Kim Katzer, Delta College registrar. “CPL is an incredible opportunity for those people who have gained special skill sets and knowledge through various life and work experiences.”
Students can earn up to 60% of the credits required for a degree. Credit for Prior Learning eliminates the need to take classes that cover content students already know. The CPL evaluation process save students money because the cost is much lower than the cost of a college course, in some cases the evaluation is free!
Perhaps you learned a skill during your service in the military or working in a particular industry. Maybe you took an exam such as Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB). Or maybe you earned a specialized license or certification like Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or journeyman card. These are just some of the ways in which you could already be on your way to earning a degree from Delta College.
Academic credit can be granted for many types of training programs. You can visit MiTransfer.org or our CPL Credit Wizard to see a list of what credentials Delta College currently awards credit for. You can also discover Delta College career credential training programs that can earn you credit too!
To ensure students do not register for a class in which they could potentially earn CPL, all students are strongly encouraged to discuss CPL with their advisor. If a student is planning on transferring to a four-year institution, they should review that institution’s policies and guidelines for accepting CPL academic credit from Delta College.
