Delta College names new associate dean of the Health and Wellness Division

WalaaDelta College’s leadership team announced the appointment of Dr. Walaa Awad as the new associate dean of the Health and Wellness Division.

Dr. Awad comes to Delta from Baker College where she led health science courses and oversaw their science program as the director for 14 years. She earned her M.D. from Tanta University in Egypt, her M.S. in health education from the University of Michigan–Flint and her Ph.D. in global health epidemiology from Walden University in Minneapolis. Dr. Awad is also a certified diversity officer and coordinated initiatives as a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) counselor and training committee leader at Baker.

“My leadership philosophy is grounded in collaboration, equity and innovation. I believe in empowering faculty and staff to bring their best ideas forward, creating a culture of trust and shared accountability,” Dr. Awad shared.

Dr. Awad is most proud of the courage she had to switch her career path from clinical to academic. Her love for education and her passionate work toward achieving health equity combine to create an unstoppable force. “I love teaching. I love being with the students in the classroom,” Dr. Awad beams. “I strive to transfer my passion to my students and help build the trust in themselves that they can make change.”

In addition to her commitment to higher education and student success, Dr. Awad is active in contributing to the continued advancement of research in the public health field. She presents at local and international conferences on subjects related to specific diseases such as obesity and osteoporosis.

“I am excited about the opportunity to contribute my skills and vision to advance the mission of Delta College,” said Dr. Awad. “I am confident that my leadership approach will help drive impactful outcomes for the Health and Wellness Division and the college as a whole.”
