Delta College celebrates their newly renovated computer science wing

Delta College K Wing Ribbon Cutting

Delta College’s computer science and information technology wing, also known as the K Wing, underwent its first major renovation since the college opened in 1961.

Construction began at the onset of the spring 2025 semester and concluded late into the fall 2025 semester. The college celebrated the completion of this major project with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, December 5 at 10am.

The K Wing features upgraded classrooms and labs, two student lounge areas, new storage rooms, a Smart Class and a collaborative lab, resulting in an additional 4,673 square feet of space. This 21,173-square-foot wing has an upgraded ventilation system that supplies heating and cooling to all classrooms, rather than the individual units it had previously. This new system improves efficiency and works to reduce noise and cost.

This wing is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is home to Delta’s Cybersecurity Center. This center is recognized by both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Security Agency (NSA) as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.

“Soon, students across many academic disciplines will have the opportunity to learn and collaborate in this remarkable space,” shared Sue Roche, associate dean of the Business and Technology Division. “This renovation not only strengthens several of our signature programs but also expands our capacity to provide training in high-demand, technology-driven fields such as Data Science and Mechatronics.”

More than 1,000 students are expected to use this space next semester, with nearly 80 classes scheduled. The total cost of the project was $6.7 million, with $2.4 million provided in a matching grant approved by State of Michigan representatives, many of whom were in attendance for the celebration.

This renovation ensures Delta College continues meeting the needs of the community by staying at the forefront of education in today’s growing technology-driven fields.
