New award-winning show premieres at the Delta College Planetarium

January 21, 2025

Spark the Universe in Us
SPARK: The Universe in Us premieres at the Delta College Planetarium Saturday, January 25 at 3:30pm. Travel deep inside a giant star nearing the end of its life and witness the collision of stellar corpses.
Where did the building blocks of life come from? The answer lies in the hearts of distant stars and incredibly powerful explosions such as supernovae, which help spread fundamental elements to galaxies far and wide where they can spark new life.

Narrated by Diego Luna, this award-winning show explores how hundreds of millions of celestial events have forged the elements that make up the Solar System, Earth and us.

“This new production from the California Academy of Sciences uses captivating scenery to demonstrate the cosmic origins of the chemical elements that make up virtually everything,” says Mike Murray, planetarium manager.  “It’s one of the best programs I’ve ever seen about our astronomical roots.”

From the oxygen we breathe to the iron in our blood, the silicon in Earth’s mantle to the uranium that warms our planet’s core and helps give our planet its protective magnetic field, we owe it all to the stars!

SPARK: The Universe in Us is appropriate for ages 12 and up with a 30-minute run time. Every show is accompanied by a short follow-op presentation about the night sky, current astronomical events and hot topics. The program runs every Saturday (except February 1) at 3:30pm from January 25 through April 26.
