Dr. Angela Guy-Lee to receive 2025 Spirit of MLK Award

Doctor Angela Guy-Lee

Dr. Angela Guy-Lee, Delta College associate professor, is the 2025 recipient of the Spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Award.

Through her own experiences as both a student and an instructor, Dr. Guy-Lee understands the importance of representation. She earned her first bachelor’s degree double majoring in American studies and Africana studies from Wellesley College in Massachusetts; her second bachelor’s degree in sociology from Eastern Michigan University; and her master’s degree in sociology and her PhD in medical anthropology from Wayne State University. Most recently, Dr. Guy-Lee earned a certificate in diversity, equity and inclusion from Cornell University in 2023.

Throughout her tenure at Delta College, Dr. Guy-Lee has served as a member and co-president for the Black Faculty and Staff Association, led classes at the Downtown Saginaw Center for the Saginaw Academy of Excellence (SAE) since its inception in 2022 and participated in roundtable discussions and presented at conferences throughout our region and the nation. Dr. Guy-Lee has even created a class specifically for Delta’s police academy called, “Race: A Social Construct,” which focuses on the history and role of race in the United States.

Dr. Guy-Lee will receive the Spirit of MLK Award January 20 at the 29th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Luncheon presented by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc and Delta College Black Faculty and Staff Association.

The Unity Luncheon will be held at The Dow Event Center in Saginaw and this year’s theme is, “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence” and the keynote address will be given by Michigan State Representative of the 94th District, Amos O’Neal. A Unity March will precede the luncheon at 10am.
