Delta College will celebrate its annual commencement with two ceremonies: Friday, May 1, at 6pm and Saturday, May 2, at 1pm. Both will be held in the gymnasium on the main campus.
The Friday ceremony will recognize graduates in business, technology and health. The Saturday ceremony will honor graduates in arts and letters, science and mathematics, and social sciences, as well as those earning all other associate’s degrees and all dual-enrolled or Early Middle College students.
About 450 graduates are expected to attend. This academic year, the college will award nearly 1,600 associate degrees and certificates.
“We’re proud to expand commencement into multiple ceremonies this year so every graduate can fully share this milestone with the people who supported them,” said Andrea Ursuy, interim president of Delta College. “Commencement is not the end of their journey, it’s the start of an exciting new chapter and we’re honored to celebrate that with them.”
Two graduates have been selected as student speakers. Rebecca Yager, of Saginaw, will speak at Friday’s ceremony, and Jawain Swint, also of Saginaw, will deliver Saturday’s address.
Yager earned an associate’s in manufacturing and industrial technology, along with an advanced certificate in computer-aided design. After graduation, she will continue working as an engineer at Fullerton Tool and return to Delta part time to help introduce high school students to CAD.
Swint is earning an associate’s in information technology support. He plans to transfer to Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems.
Both ceremonies will be livestreamed on the Delta College YouTube channel.
Delta College is among the nation’s leading community colleges, known for graduates who make a difference in their communities. In the past five years, 98% of graduates have remained in Michigan, with 79% living in the college’s service area of Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties.
