Credit for prior learning exams

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) exams allow you to prove you have previously acquired the knowledge for a specific Delta College class and don’t need to take the class. Instead, you can earn course credit by taking an exam.

Students seeking Credit for Prior Learning need to meet with the Registrar's Office or the Veteran Services Office prior to scheduling their exam.

Getting started

To begin the Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) process, please use the Credit Wizard. It provides detailed information about the courses available and the various ways you can earn credit for your prior learning experiences.

Types of exams

There are two types of exams provided at the Testing Center for CPL.

Third party exams

These are exams provided by other organizations which you can take at the Delta College Testing Center.

Third party exams include:

• College Level Exam Program for specific courses like marketing, math, composition, biology and more
• Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES/DSST) for those with military training
• Exams by organizations such as CompTIA or CISCO

Division credit by exam

If you have previous knowledge from work or class experiences, take an exam developed by Delta College faculty designed for that skill set or knowledge and earn credit in that program.

Please note, not all CPL exams are administered in the Testing Center. Use the Credit Wizard to determine your next steps and who to contact.
