Donald J. Carlyon
"The humanities, done right, are the crucible within which our evolving notions of what it means to be fully human are put to the test; they teach us, incrementally, endlessly, not what to do, but how to be."
Mark Slouka, American novelist and essayist
In 1964, President Emeritus Donald J. Carlyon and composer Dr. Samuel Jones joined forces and talents to create the Summer Conservatory of Music and Festival of Arts at Delta College. Please plan to join us as we honor the 50th anniversary of this groundbreaking collaboration, celebrate Don's 90th birthday and introduce our faculty, staff and students' vision for humanities as passport to the world.
"It is a convenient truth: you go into the humanities to pursue your intellectual passion; and it just so happens, as a by-product, that you emerge as a desired commodity for industry."
Damon Horowitz, Philosophy professor, technologist and serial entrepreneur
