Honors Awards & Scholarships

The Delta College Honors Program sponsors academic awards and scholarships. You can apply any time that you qualify. Credit for awards can be posted to transcripts throughout the year. 


Honors Certificate

Students who complete the following requirements will receive an Honors certificate signed by the Honors Program Director as well as having the award noted on their transcript. 

Honors Certificate requirements

    • Current member of the Honors Program
    • Maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.25
    • Earn a minimum of 12 Honors credits with a course grade of "C" or better
    • Complete the required Honors colloquy course
    • Submit an Honors certificate application

Before you begin the application, you will be asked to fill out a survey about your experience with the Honors Program. When you submit the survey, you will receive a link to the Honors Certification Application form. You will be requested to list the classes in which you earned Honors credit, so please have that information available before you begin.

President's Award for Excellence in Honors

This award recognizes advanced Honors academic achievement by Honors students. Students who complete the requirements of the President's Award will receive a framed award certificate in addition to a letter of commendation from the President of Delta College. The award will be noted on the student's transcript. 

President's Award requirements

    • Current member of the Honors Program
    • Have earned an Honors certificate (or will earn in the current semester)
    • Maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.25
    • Earn a minimum of 18 Honors credits with a course grade of "C" or better
    • Complete one of the following:
      • Learning community course
      • Credit or non-credit volunteer activity
      • Three credit hours of independent study
      • Individualized instruction
      • Independent project

Caroline Gruenberg Wirtz Honors Student Leadership Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize the significant leadership of one student in the Delta College Honors Program. The applicant's activities may have taken place at Delta College or in the community, but must represent leadership rather than mere participation. The recipient's name will appear on the Caroline Gruenberg Wirtz award plaque displayed in the student awards display case as well as a certificate and a $500 cash award. 

Award requirements

    • Current member of the Honors Program
    • Have earned an Honors certificate (or will earn in the current semester)
    • Currently enrolled in Delta College
    • Submit a personal statement of 500-750 words discussing the value and meaning of your leadership experience
    • Submit two letters of support on letterhead of professional affiliation from faculty or staff at Delta College or individuals in the community (excluding family members) who can attest to leadership activities cited on the application
    • Must be present at the Honors Program award ceremony to receive the award

President's Honors Scholarship

This is an academic-based scholarship for graduating high school seniors. Up to 20 full-ride academic scholarships are awarded each academic year.

Applications are currently open from September 25 - November 10, 2023

President's Honors Scholarship benefits

    • Cost of tuition, fees and required books are covered for two years
    • Travel scholarship of $500 will be set aside to be used toward a Delta College international travel study experience or a similar approved activity 
    • The $100 application fee to join Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges
    • Academic guidance from an Honors designated advisor

These scholarships must be used while attending Delta College. If you transfer to another college or university, the scholarship dollars will not transfer with you.

President's Honors Scholarship requirements

    • Reside in either Bay, Midland or Saginaw County
    • Graduating from high school senior
    • G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 or higher G.P.A. on a weighted scale
    • Plan to earn a transfer degree or an occupational degree in two years
    • Complete the federal aid application FAFSA
      • Students may start applying for FAFSA beginning October 1
    • Attend Delta College full time beginning in fall semester
    • Seek and complete an associate degree in two years
    • Maintain a minimum 3.25 G.P.A.
    • Become a member of the Honors Program and complete the honors certificate requirements
    • Complete 30 documented volunteer hours prior to your final semester

Application requirements

    • Complete the online scholarship application prior to the deadline
    • Answer all application questions
    • Complete one of the Honors essay questions
      • It is strongly advised that you also answer the two optional essay questions so you can be considered for other scholarships if you do not receive the President's Honors Scholarship or an Honors scholarship
    • Upload the following documents:
      • Two academic letters of recommendation (from teachers or counselors)
      • High school transcript
      • Unofficial SAT transcript (If your SAT score is on your high school transcript, upload this file in this space also)
