Technically minded Katlin Escamilla knows exactly what she wants to do. She’s after a career that pairs renewable energy with engineering.
“I find renewable energy really important to our society and our future,” said Katlin, who recently graduated from Delta. “There are so many things you can do in the field, and there are so many opportunities too.”
Hydroelectric, solar, and wind (her favorite) – she plans on learning more about them this fall when she continues her education at Saginaw Valley State University, where she’ll earn a bachelor’s degree.
It was an easy decision
The decision to start her college experience two years ago at Delta was an easy one. The quality of education, cost of tuition and the many resources that were available, Katlin said, made Delta a good fit.
“My mom actually went to Delta, as well as a lot of other family members,” she said. “They loved it, so I decided to give it a shot, and I loved it too.”
The quick, 10-minute drive to campus from Katlin’s house was convenient. She would often come to class then stay to study in the library, one of her favorite campus spots. She also took advantage of the WRIT (Writing Reading Information Technology) and Tutoring centers.
“Attending Delta allowed me to experience different perspectives, which has opened my mind to a lot of things that I wouldn’t have previously thought about or been exposed to.”
“Delta has so many free support services. I found myself struggling through hours’ worth of homework, but then started going to the Tutoring Center and a lot of my questions were cleared up in 30 minutes. It’s a really valuable resource and I think is super cool that Delta offers for free,” she said.
Katlin, who enjoys gaming and painting in her free time, said Delta was an enriching experience.
“Attending Delta allowed me to experience different perspectives, which has opened my mind to a lot of things that I wouldn’t have previously thought about or been exposed to,” she said.
