Letter from the President

Dr. Jean GoodnowThank you for your continuing interest in, and support of, Delta College. This is an exciting time for our team, as you will read about further in this publication.

When I arrived in the Great Lakes Bay Region nearly 14 years ago to become President of Delta College, the Board of Trustees had identified a need to better serve each of our communities with better facilities. Over this past year, that vision has become reality in many ways.

Construction of the Delta College Downtown Saginaw Center (see pages 4-6) is nearing completion and classes begin this fall. I invite you to join our team of faculty and staff at a community-wide public open house on Saturday, June 22 (see pages 14-15). Come see how Delta College has built a phenomenal facility to meet the needs of everyone in Saginaw County who hopes to pursue higher education.

In a remarkable turn of events, Delta College also broke ground on its new Downtown Midland Center (see pages 10-11). Construction is beginning now and will wrap up next summer.

Many of my community college presidential colleagues have struggled to find funding to keep their buildings up-to-date. However, I have found that the Great Lakes Bay Region has a strong belief in higher education. There are many who have been willing to step forward to help Delta College pursue its new facilities. That is true for our elected officials who were instrumental in securing the dollars needed to build in Saginaw. And, it’s true for the major philanthropic foundations who stepped forward to commit dollars to see a new building become reality in Midland.

At the end of April, I led Delta College’s 58th Commencement ceremony, where I was able to shake hands with each graduate and hand them their diploma. It is one of my favorite times of year. And with so many friends and family members in the audience, it reminds me how big of an impact an education from Delta College can have on a student.

Please enjoy this publication, which celebrates new student graduates, successful alumni and proudly displays our commitment to high quality educational delivery in every corner of our region.

Have a great summer and I hope to see you on June 22 in Saginaw!
