A name long associated with Saginaw is furthering its commitment to the area. The Morley Family Foundation has gifted $23,000 to Delta College to create a scholarship endowment. Distribution of interest earned from this new endowment will provide scholarship support for students throughout the region for years to come.
“We’ve been involved with Delta for a long time, many members of our family went there, and the Foundation board continues to see the relevance and value of Delta to area businesses and industry,” said David Morley, Vice President of the Morley Family Foundation and Vice Chair of the Delta College Foundation. “We are blessed to be able to continue to support Delta, and are excited to have this endowment put in place.”
The Morley Family Foundation was established in 1948 by Ralph Chase and Lucy Burrows Morley and their sons Ralph C. Morley Jr., Edward B. Morley and Burrows Morley. Today the foundation is made up of third, fourth and fifth generation descendants.
Long History of Support
The family and the foundation have provided generous support to Delta College from the very beginning, with two members of the family having a hand in Delta’s formation. Both George L. Burrows, III and E.B. Morley, Sr. served on the Committee of 300 from Saginaw County. This group was the result of a “Tri-County College Study Committee,” formed in 1955, to discuss the idea of a community college for Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties. Ultimately the committee began the process that led to Delta’s opening in 1961.
The foundation is an active supporter of Delta public broadcasting, as well. Since 1983, the foundation has underwritten programming on WDCQ-TV (formerly WUCM TV-19), Delta’s PBS station, longer than any other organization.
