Sydney Hollis always planned to attend Delta College after high school.
Delta had the marketing program she was interested in, campus was close to home and she could continue working while taking classes. During her senior year, she found out that she was awarded a President’s Honors Scholarship, which covers two years of Delta tuition, fees and books.
“The scholarship was definitely the icing on the cake,” said Hollis, from Saginaw.
Right now, Hollis is focused on the path to getting her dream job: working in a marketing role for a sustainability-focused nonprofit organization. She’s interested in climate change and preserving the world’s oceans and lakes.
“I want to dedicate my career to something I strongly believe in,” she said. “I love science and anything related to preserving our planet.”
Hollis graduated from Delta in April and shortly after, she received the Robert and Joyce Hetzler Family Award – one of Delta’s highest awards for student graduates. It’s an accumulation of her busy, yet fulfilling, time at Delta.
“I feel honored beyond belief,” she said. “When I applied for the award, I had to write an essay about my time at Delta. Once I got it on paper, I realized I did so much and had such an incredible experience.”
During her time at Delta, Hollis joined the Honors program, became a member of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), studied abroad in Costa Rica, and served in leadership roles for Delta’s DECA Club and PTK. She is also a community volunteer, and last year, she raised more than $800 for victims of hurricanes Irma and Maria.
She’s enrolled in the 3+1 marketing program with Delta and Northwood University, and will graduate with a bachelor’s degree next year.
