As we gear up for another exciting and productive academic year, I am reminded of how challenging these past few months have been, dealing with many unexpected events in Michigan and throughout the world.
The coronavirus crisis has impacted everyone, including our Delta community. These unprecedented times called for actions never seen before at Delta. In March, our students, faculty and staff members transitioned to remote learning, teaching and working, and campus buildings were closed. This decision was made for the safety of our Pioneers.
As difficult as this time has been, it’s also been a time of togetherness and gratitude. I’ve seen our communities come together like never before. The stories of support and kindness are inspirational, and I am proud of the efforts everyone is making on behalf of our students. In this issue of Journeys, you’ll read about some of those stories.
Throughout this publication, you’ll also learn about the many dedicated supporters of Delta College and how these individuals and organizations are making an incredible impact on our students and their futures. We’ve highlighted new scholarships and endowments, and shared the moving and interesting stories behind them. Read on to learn about high school sweethearts who met in the ‘40s, a touching 90th birthday surprise, and how our students are succeeding in the automotive technician and agriculture professions.
Thank you to each and every one of you for your continued interest in and unwavering
support of Delta College. Your generosity empowers Delta to continue its mission of
providing a high-quality education for our students who take what they’ve learned
and make a difference in their communities, both in the
Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond.
Please enjoy this publication that proudly demonstrates the many reasons why it’s great – no, truly wonderful! – to be a Pioneer.
