Q-TV offers more programming for kids, resources for parents
As K-12 students across the state tackle lessons from home, Q-TV Delta College Public Media has joined a statewide initiative to provide new educational programs to help boost learning.
At-Home Learning, a partnership between all Michigan PBS stations, combines a new weekday television schedule of programs with related resources online. The programs are for students in all grades and focus on history, science, social studies, literature and math.
- Q-TV World, on channel 19.2, is offering educational programs from 8am to noon for students in grades 4-8.
- Q-TV’s World’s At-Home Learning provides five hours of educational programs that serve grades 6-12 beginning at noon.
- Q-TV continues to offer educational programs for preschoolers and elementary students every morning and weekday afternoons, and 24/7 on Q-TV Kids, channel 19.4, and on Q-TV’s online video player.

“It has always been the mission of Delta College Public Broadcasting to ensure that all kids have access to free educational resources at home,” said Tom Bennett, general manager of Delta College Broadcasting. “With the addition of At-Home Learning, we can now provide educational programs for K-12 students in the same way that our 24/7 PBS KIDS service engages children.”
Bennett said pbs.org/parents provides helpful tips and resources for parents to talk to their children about the coronavirus, as well a list of ways to practice healthy habits year-round. Another resource, PBSkids.org, offers games and videos to help kids play and learn at home. The website includes tips, recipes, activities and craft ideas.
Learning to paint like Bob
With aprons on and paint brushes in hand, a group of community members gathered in the Q-TV studio at Delta College Public Broadcasting in February to learn how to paint like the legendary Bob Ross.
The workshop was led by certified Bob Ross instructors, and it included lunch and a tour of Delta College Public Media studios. Participants learned how to paint one of Ross’ famous landscape scenes using oil painting methods.
Ross was creator and host of “The Joy of Painting,” an instructional program that was filmed in Muncie, Indiana and first aired on PBS in 1983. It still airs on Q-TV’s main PBS and Q-TV’s Create channels.
Additional workshops will be offered in the future. Check Delta College Public Media’s website, deltabroadcasting.org, for updates and more information.
