Welcome to Delta’s spring issue of Journeys!
As we head into the spring and summer, Delta College continues to respond to the ongoing pandemic, while also planning for our fall semester. In addition to adapting our classrooms in anticipation for the return of students, we’re also searching for the person who will become Delta’s fifth president. Dr. Jean Goodnow – our fourth leader – is retiring at the end of August, and the campus and community wish her well in retirement. Read more on pages 6-9.
The upcoming summer will be busy as we complete and celebrate several projects across all elements of campus life. Those include the opening of our Downtown Midland Center and the completion of our outdoor athletic fields and facilities. We are also proud of our efforts to serve as a vaccination site (see page 10). As of this writing, we have delivered more than 15,000 shots!
We have been honored over the past year to enjoy strong support from past and present individuals who have ties to Delta College. In this issue of Journeys, you’ll read about several new endowments established to assist Delta’s students. Whether retirees or board members, these new donors have a belief in our mission and want to see it continue for decades to come.
As our economy rebounds, many residents in our region continue to struggle and remain underemployed. We are bracing for a resurgence of those who will need education and training to get back into the workplace. As we face this new normal, we welcome all who may need a hand up. If you are willing to do so, we would be honored to accept your financial contribution and we will put it to good use in helping those returning to the classroom.
I have worked directly for three of Delta’s four presidents and can say each took
the college to new heights of innovation during their tenure. We will certainly miss
Dr. Goodnow as she leaves us for retirement, but, to all of our alumni, contributors
and community supporters, rest assured that Delta’s team of bright faculty and staff
will continue its history of excellence. We are confident that our future and continuing
accomplishments will make you proud to
be a Pioneer!
