The League for Innovation in the Community College is an international nonprofit organization with a mission to “cultivate innovation in the community college environment” and catalyzes “transformational innovation” across colleges.

Delta College became a founding member of the League in 1968 and has since remained a charter member on its leadership board.

Dr. Michael Gavin joined Delta as its fifth president in August 2021, which required the college to seek reaffirmation to maintain its board position due to the presidential transition. Gavin is one of the 19-member Board of Directors. In February, Delta officials held a virtual campus tour for the League to demonstrate the college’s active dedication to institutional excellence. On March 10, the League unanimously voted in favor of Delta as a leader in the national efforts of community colleges.

Dr. Gavin says the reaffirmation amplifies the college’s vision for the future that will “keep us at the table of community college leadership.”

“Having one of the few seats on the Board of the League for Innovation has been a tradition at Delta College. Our reaffirmation validates that Delta’s long history of excellence, innovation, and leading community college education remain the pillars of our work,” Dr. Gavin said. “It also means that Delta will continue to be a thought leader in what the country’s education looks like and the workforce of the future needs.”

Dr. Reva Curry, vice president of instruction and learning services and Delta’s League member representative, says that maintaining its place on the board is evidence of Delta’s intention of being one of the best community colleges in the county.

“Our reaffirmation on the board reflects our dedicated and intentional efforts to provide our students and graduates with first-class educational excellence,” she said. “We strive to be an example of leadership and continue to evolve to meet the needs of our students.”
