Letter from the Delta College Foundation Chair

Paul Barbeau

Spring is often seen as a symbol of new beginnings. A fresh start to a year that is just coming into bloom. It’s a feeling that comes to mind as I reflect on Delta’s recent achievements and envision the bright future ahead for its students.

With enrollment and graduation rates increasing, Delta had another successful academic year. The year also seemed to overflow with engaging community events on a variety of fascinating and eye-opening topics. Delta students, faculty, staff and the college has had many successes and celebratory achievements, some of which are highlighted throughout this issue.

The college did a little “spring cleaning” of the planetarium’s dome and initiated a new way to introduce high schoolers to the exciting world of STEM through the Semiconductor Experience. To help foster community connection through learning, the PBS Raising Readers Room had its grand opening in March. Two new generous endowments were established through the Foundation thanks to the kindness of Carol and Walter Weinlander and Dr. Murlene “Mac” McKinnon. And there’s a fresh face on campus – Duck!

I can’t wait to see what the next academic year brings.
As the newly elected Chair of the Delta College Foundation Board of Directors, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the spring issue of Journeys!
