Delta College Planetarium dome gets a refresh
When was the last time you went to the Delta College Planetarium to see a show? If it was before 2024, it’s time to plan another visit!
After a major cleaning and repainting of the 5,800 square-foot hemispherical dome, the Delta College Planetarium had its reopening on January 13.
The updates were long awaited, with Planetarium Manager, Mike Murray noting, “The dome hadn’t been cleaned and painted since it opened in 1997.” The domed projection screen consists of perforated aluminum panels that required a specialized paint process carried out by Astro-Tec Inc. from Ohio.
“Visitors will be treated to a screen with brighter, more colorful imagery that looks smooth and consistent. This will help the immersive scenery feel vivid and realistic,” said Murray.
Audiences can choose from a variety of family-friendly shows on rotation from the end of June through August, such as Mysteries of the Great Lakes, Dinosaurs: A Story of Survival, From Earth to the Universe and more!
General admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children 3-18, seniors, students and military. To purchase, please visit tickets.delta.edu/mainstore. The Delta College Planetarium is located at 100 Center Avenue in downtown Bay City. For a complete list of shows, times and descriptions visit delta.edu/planetarium or call 989-667-2260.
