Female NFL Referee Speaking at Delta

Sarah ThomasThe Delta College President’s Speakers Series is pleased to announce Sarah Thomas will discuss “BLITZ – Empowering Women Through Sports,” on Wednesday, February 7, beginning at 10am in the Delta College Lecture Theater (G160).

Thomas became the first full-time female referee in the NFL in 2015. Her first game was between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans. Her hat, whistle and flag from that game are now on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Sarah was born in Mississippi and is a graduate of the University of Mobile, where she earned a full scholarship and Academic All-American honors as a basketball player.

“The committee was excited to choose a groundbreaker,” said Dr. David Baskind Professor of Psychology and President’s Speaker Series Co-Chair. “Sarah bravely entered a career which has featured very few women. With all of the recent discussions involving women in the workplace and the way men have treated them, we know Sarah can shed light on becoming a key player in a male-dominated sport.”

The lecture will be followed by question and answer dialogue with the audience. The event is free and open to the community with support of the Delta College President's office and Delta College Athletics. No tickets required.
