A free virtual networking event on January 7 will focus on the importance of communities coming together for a common goal.
The inaugural event, “Rising of the Phoenix,” will take place from 10am-noon and will feature a keynote presentation by human and civil rights activist Joe Madison, host of “The Black Eagle” on Sirius XM Radio.
The event will include a welcome speech by City of Saginaw Mayor Brenda Moore and opening remarks by Delta College President Dr. Michael Gavin. It will feature community leaders from organizations such as NAACP Saginaw Branch and Bethel AME Church, as well as a panel of guests:

- Angela Guy-Lee, instructor of sociology, Delta College
- Kimberly Klein, professor of political science, Delta College
- Ray Lacina, professor of English, Delta College
- Lisa Lawrason, professor of political science, Delta College
- Nikita Murry, director of diversity education, Central Michigan University
- Elsa Olvera, director of the Educational Opportunity Center, Delta College
