Dr. David Hopkins has been named dean of Transfer Programs.

Delta College's leadership team has announced the appointment of Dr. David Hopkins as the dean of Transfer Programs and Online Learning. He began his role on June 5.

Dr. Hopkins will oversee the Associate Deans, Faculty and Staff in the Divisions of Arts and Letters, Science and Mathematics, Social Sciences and the eLearning department.

“At Midland College, Dr. Hopkins championed support for faculty across disciplines and instructional modalities,” said Dr. Reva Curry, vice president of Instruction and Learning Services. “We look forward to his leadership at Delta College, where he will work with faculty and staff to strengthen transfer programs and online learning for our students. His skills and experience make him a perfect fit for Delta College.”

Dr. Hopkins was a Delta College student, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in History at Wayne State University.

While at Midland College, Dr. Hopkins served as the History Dual Credit Liaison, History Department Chair, and later, Interim Dean of the Social/Behavioral Sciences and Business Division in Midland, Texas. He chaired Midland’s Quality Enhancement Plan and coordinated the Henry Foundation Endowment Financial Management and Relationships program. His professional activities include leadership roles in the Texas Community College Teachers’ Association and the ETS/College Board.

Hopkins, a Bay City native, says returning to begin this role has “now come full circle,” as he credited Delta where he discovered his life and career goals.

“I am looking forward to making Delta the best choice for students in the Great Lakes Bay Region,” Hopkins said. “While potential students have many options for higher education, I want them to think about Delta College first as a place to discover what they want to do regarding a career. I want them to know they have a great college right in their backyard with top-notch programs and faculty.”
