James Hood’s “MESMERICA 360” returns to the Delta Planetarium

January 31, 2023

MesmericaBeginning Friday, February 3 at 5:30pm and 7:30pm, the Delta College Planetarium will play the feature “MESMERICA 360,” a visual musical journey that brings the music of Grammy-award nominated composter and percussionist James Hood.

The limited run will play Fridays and Saturdays at 5:30pm and 7:30pm through February 25.

Currently showing in 11 cities across the U.S., the award-winning feature has sold out more than 1,200 shows since its debut in 2019.

“The three-week test run in 2020 received an overwhelmingly positive response with all shows selling out ahead of time,” says Mike Murray, planetarium manager. “The incredible diversity and depth of the immersive art draws you into another state of mind. It’s truly spellbinding.”

The family-friendly 360 full dome production show creates an immersive experience designed to transcend time while simultaneously stimulating the sense. The result is an epic, immersive visual journey that has audiences coming back to experience. Hood partnered with director Michael Saul and immersive experience experts with Vortex Immersion Media.

The soundtrack, taken from Hood’s 2017 album “Mesmerica,” is based around the sound of a uniquely soothing percussion instrument called the “hang.”

“The power of immersive music and art is like no other art form. It has the ability to create unique moods and brain states, and we’re thrilled and honored to be able to showcase this full dome presentation in such wonderful venues as the planetariums,” Hood said.

The Delta College Planetarium is located at 100 Center Avenue in downtown Bay City. To purchase tickets, visit tickets.mesmerica.com/baycity. Tickets must be purchased in advance online and will not be available at the planetarium. For more information, email boxoffice@jameshood.com.
