Delta Planetarium celebrates Astronomy Day

April 14, 2023

TelescopeIn celebration of International Astronomy Day on Friday, April 28, the Delta College Planetarium in Bay City is hosting a special show at 7pm in the Dome360 Theater and a telescope viewing show, weather permitting.

The “How to Get into Astronomy” presentation, hosted by planetarium specialist Brian Kennedy, will highlight stargazing, observing techniques and equipment in astronomy. Afterward, guests can explore the night sky through telescopes from the planetarium’s rooftop observation deck.

Astronomy Day, which this year coincides with Statewide Astronomy Night, is when hundreds of organizations worldwide host special family-oriented events to showcase the wonder and excitement of the night sky. Traditionally it’s celebrated between mid-April and mid-May, on the weekend closest to the First Quarter Moon.

The theme of Astronomy Day is “Bringing Astronomy to the People,” where amateur astronomers and science fans from around the world demonstrate their enthusiasm about the sky.

Tickets cost $3 for all ages and can be purchased in advance online or in person at the planetarium, located at 100 Center Avenue in downtown Bay City.
