Black Holes Lecture

On Friday, March 24 at 7pm the Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center will host a special lecture called “Black Holes Unveiled.”  Delta College Physics Professor Adam VanDyke will make use of the planetarium’s Dome360 theater to illustrate the latest discoveries about Black Holes, one of the most intriguing objects in space that result from star death.

“Some amazing discoveries have been made about Black Holes in recent years,” says Mike Murray, Astronomer and Manager of the Planetarium.  “Adam will present, through immersive visualization, what these discoveries mean to our understanding of the end states of stars. This includes the recent groundbreaking discovery of Gravity Waves,” adds Murray. The presentation also looks at new findings about Supermassive Black Holes, the hugely massive black holes that seem to reside in the hearts of most galaxies including our own Milky Way.

The presentation is part of the Black Holes theme going on at the Planetarium, as it supports the new fulldome show “Black Holes Revisited” playing in the digital dome theater through March.

Tickets for the talk are specially priced at $3 per seat.  All ages are welcome. For more information go to the Planetarium’s website or call 989-667-2260. The Delta College Planetarium is located in downtown Bay City at 100 Center Avenue.
