On Friday, December 1 at 7pm the Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center will present a special program about telescopes as part of its monthly “Gateway to the Stars” series. Planetarium Manager Mike Murray will offer insights on the different kinds of telescopes and how to use them. The show is specially designed for those that are thinking of gifting observing aids like binoculars or telescopes during the holidays.
The planetarium dome theater will be used to demonstrate how telescopes work and the techniques for finding deep sky wonders with them. From there, Murray will highlight some of the more notable objects, using them as examples to teach observing methods that will help when using telescopes.
After the show (and weather permitting), visitors are invited onto the planetarium's rooftop observation deck for a night sky viewing session with binoculars and telescopes. Guests are welcome to bring their own and receive hands-on guidance from planetarium staff and members of the Sunset Astronomical Society. In the event of cloudy weather, hands-on telescope demonstrations will be done in the planetarium exhibit lobby.
“Gateway to the Stars” runs on the first Friday of every month at 7pm in the planetarium theater. Tickets are specially priced at $3 per seat. All ages are welcome.
