The Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance, Delta College and Mid Michigan Community College announced today that they will establish the Employer Talent Pipeline to serve students, businesses and educational institutions beginning this fall. The goal is to increase the number of students who are interested in and prepared to pursue STEM related careers in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
The Employer Talent Pipeline emerged from coordinated efforts by regional STEM networks at Delta College and Mid Michigan Community College. The key outcomes will include creating more partnerships for students to get on-the-job experience with local employers through internship, co-op and other experiential learning opportunities and working with employers to support continuous demand forecasting to training providers.
The Employer Talent Pipeline can be accessed at both higher education institutions to engage educators and business leadership from ten target employer sectors while establishing a regional advisory committee to serve an eight county area.
“This partnership expands on Delta’s commitment to STEM, students, and local employers by connecting the needs of the workplace with future talent,” said Jean Goodnow, President of Delta College.
"Mid Michigan Community College is pleased to work collaboratively with Delta College in the development of the Great Lakes Bay Regional Employer Talent Pipeline. Our two community colleges undertake this initiative to further respond to employer demand in our region," said Christine Hammond, President of Mid Michigan Community College.
The Employer Talent Pipeline is a direct result of the Great Lakes Bay Region STEM Impact Initiative. Research conducted by Accenture and Innovate+Educate indicated that the Great Lakes Bay Region must be develop a STEM Talent Pipeline that is driven by employer demand.
