“To Worlds Beyond” opens at the Delta Planetarium

Beginning Saturday, May 5 at 3:30pm the Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center will debut a brand new Dome360 film about the solar system called To Worlds Beyond.

From the fiery surface of the Sun to the icy realm of comets, this show uses the revolutionary discoveries of our space missions to give us a three-dimensional journey through the worlds of our solar system. Narrated by Star Trek’s John Billingsley, audiences will come face to face with enormous volcanoes, vast canyons, dazzling rings, and storms that would swallow the Earth. The program also explores what makes Pluto our most special Dwarf Planet.

“This July will be the closest approach of Mars to earth in 15 years, and this show is the perfect way to celebrate it” explains Mike Murray, Planetarium Manager. “Every show will include a live presentation about what to expect in observing Mars, as well as the latest discoveries from spacecraft,” Murray adds.

To Worlds Beyond will play in the digital dome theater of the Delta College Planetarium on Saturdays at 3:30pm from May 5 through August 18, 2018. The film is well suited for adults and families with children ages 8 and up.

Tickets go on sale at the planetarium one hour before show time. Visitors are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes before the show begins. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, children, seniors and military.

Running concurrently with the show is a free exhibit called “Visions of a Red Planet” which reveals some of the more spectacular images of Mars from orbiting spacecraft and landers. Much of the photography has not been seen in the public realm before. The display can be seen in the planetarium’s main lobby all summer long starting May 11 and running through September 1 during all public open hours.
