With the #MeToo movement raising awareness about the widespread problem of sexual harassment and assault, Americans are wondering where we go from here to alleviate the problem. The Delta Political Forum Series is offering an event to explore the role of private individuals and public policy in addressing the problem.

“Beyond #MeToo: Personal and Public Responsibility” will be held from 2-4 pm on Tuesday, March 20, in the Delta College Commons (Red Brix Café). The event will feature a panel of experts on the topic, including an opportunity for audience members to lend their life experience and perspective to the discussion.

The distinguished panel leading the discussion will include Kevin Kelly, JD, Attorney, The Mastromarco Firm of Saginaw; Liz Peters, JD, Attorney and Partner, Masud Labor Law Group, Saginaw; and Amanda Lorencz, MSW, Therapist with the Sexual Assault Center, Child and Family Services of Saginaw. The dialogue will be moderated by Loyce Brown, Equity Officer at Delta College.

This community-wide dialogue will first explore what is sexual harassment, then the role of the victim and the bystander in alleviating the issue, as well as whether changes should be made to current public policy, specifically in the areas of social media and non-disclosure agreements.

The dialogue will be divided into three segments, each of which will include a discussion by the panel, followed by a round-table discussion of the audience.

“Such a ‘deliberative dialogue’ is intended to help participants develop better informed opinions and a greater understanding of the range of solutions and their consequences,” said Professor Barb Handley-Miller, who is chairing the event. “In short, we hope to provide the audience with tools to make informed decisions in our democracy.”
