You've worked hard and know your industry well. Now, you want a degree to prove it, but you're not really interested in sitting in classes to "learn" what you already know. We get that!

At Delta, your experience counts. We’ll give you credit for it. 

The Delta College Testing Center seeks to provide high quality testing services that promote the intellectual growth of students, graduates, professionals and members of the community.     With Credit-by-Examination, you take a test at Delta’s Testing Center and, if you pass, you get the credit or waive the class. It’s pretty straightforward.

Advanced placement (AP)

View the listing of all Advance Placement Examinations accepted at Delta College for further information.

Important note:  Delta College Records and Registration must receive official "College Grade Report" directly from The College Board: Advance Placement Program before Delta's course equivalent credit is posted on your transcript. AP score(s) must be equal to or higher than the minimum score listed for the examination.

Certified Training 

Academic Credit can be granted for the following types of training programs and exams provided criteria for the award of credit is met:

  • Certified Professional Secretary Exam
  • Child Development Associate credential
  • Current State of Michigan Cosmetology License
  • Current State of Michigan EMT License
  • Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council
  • Current State of Michigan Paramedic License
  • Skilled Trades Journeyman Card
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider Card -  issued by the American Heart Association within the last 6 months
  • HeartSaver First Aid with CPR and AED Certification Card issued by the American Heart Association within the last 6 months
  • COMPTIA A+ Certification

Proof of current credentialing must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office for evaluation and posting of applicable credits or waivers. Contact the Registrar's Office at registration@delta.edu for further information. 

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)  
How to register
  1. Verify that you can receive CLEP credit for your expected class by reviewing the Complete Test Out List.  
  2. Create an account with College Board.
  3. Select the exam and the pay $90 examination fee directly to College Board.
    1. Note: Due to CLEP regulations, we are unable to accommodate students who register for a remote appointment. Please make sure you choose the option for testing at a Test Center when registering for your CLEP exam.
  4. Contact the Cashier's office at (989) 686-9394 to arrange payment of the $35 administration fee payable directly to Delta College; non-refundable and non-transferable.
  5. Email the Delta College Testing Center testingcenter@delta.edu with your CLEP ticket and receipt information. 
  6. Upon receipt of above, you will be contacted to schedule your appointment and to receive final instructions. 
  7. Arrive on time for your appointment, and bring your government-issued ID with you. 

Certain members of the U.S. Armed Services, veterans, their spouses, and civilian employees may be eligible for DANTES funding to take a CLEP exam. Proper Military ID is required on the day of testing. All DANTES eligible service members will be required to pay Delta College's administrative fee of $35, or $25 for active military.

Credit-by-Examination (CBE)
 Before registering, please note:
  • Credits earned through Credit-by-Exam will not transfer to other colleges or universities.
  • You may not be currently enrolled in the class, nor have taken it previously. 
  • Credit-by-Examinations receive a pass/fail. You will not receive a grade. If you choose the credit option, credits will be posted to your transcript.
  • Some courses require prerequisites. Refer to the current Delta College catalog to determine if you have met the prerequisites before registering for an exam. 
  • View all classes that offer a Credit-by-Exam.
How to register
  1. Complete the Delta College Credit-by-Exam registration form. Fees are $60.00 per credit hour, or $35 for a waiver (no credits applied to transcript).  Fees are nonrefundable and non-transferable.
  2. Send form to testingcenter@delta.edu.
  3. Upon receipt of above, you will be contacted to schedule your appointment and to receive final instructions.  
  4. Arrive on time for your appointment, and bring your ID (either government-issued ID or Delta student ID) with you.
Credit-by-Portfolio

With Credit-By-Portfolio, you get college credit for related work experience equivalent to that taught in the classroom. There is a submission process (along with a $60.00 per credit hour fee). Not every subject can be taken by Credit-By-Portfolio, but if successful, the earned credits are recorded on your transcript and are applied to your Delta degree.

You only get one shot, but if you can show you know what’s taught in the class, it’s a good way to gain credit and save quite a bit of cash.

Also, you can only earn 38 total credits from Credit-By-Portfolio. The rest? You need to get those in the classroom.

Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (Dantes/DSST)

DANTES exams are designed to help active military members and veterans pursue their educational goals and earn degrees during and after their service.

How to register
  1. Complete the request form, including a $35 administration fee payable directly to Delta College; nonrefundable and non-transferable.
  2. Return the form to testingcenter@delta.edu.
  3. Upon receipt of above, you will be contacted to schedule your appointment and to receive final instructions. 
  4. Please arrive on time for your scheduled exam, and bring your government-issued ID with you to your appointment.
  5. Please be sure to bring a credit card with you. You will pay the vendor at the time of testing.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Several area high schools have implemented the International Baccalaureate (IB) degree program. In order to receive credit, students must achieve the minimum test score. If you have questions regarding IB credit contact your high school IB coordinator or the International Baccalaureate Organization.

It's true, getting a lot of sleep the night before you take a test will help you do better. And, making sure you have a good healthy meal will help too. No one functions well when they're tired and hungry.
