Emergency Funds for Eligible Students

Delta College received federal funding to provide emergency grants to students.  The dollars are to help offset the costs associated with attending college or for emergency costs such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care.

Qualified students will not need to do anything to receive these funds, which will be distributed by check or direct deposit for students that have provided their banking information. The dollars come from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal grant.

In accordance with Department of Education guidelines, Delta College will distribute this federal emergency grant funding for eligible students in the following manner, based on FAFSA data as of May 18, 2023

  • Students with a $0 EFC (Expected Family Contribution) figure on their FAFSA, receive $350 each. These students have the highest financial need and are eligible to receive full Pell grants, according to the Department of Education.
  • Students who are eligible for a Pell grant, with an EFC amount that falls above $0 but within the Pell range, receive $250 each.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?

In order to be eligible to be considered to receive funds, Delta College students must have been enrolled in the spring semester as of May 18, 2023.  Note that students enrolled only in courses beginning after June 30, 2023 were not eligible to receive this award.

How can I use the funds?

Students may use these funds for any component of their cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus. Examples include tuition, food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare etc.

I did not complete the 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Can I still qualify for this funding?

The APRA Act does not require filing of the FAFSA form in order to be eligible to receive emergency grant funds. However, award amounts to students for spring 2023 were determined based on the College’s records as of May 18, 2023.

Are dual enrolled or early college students eligible for this funding?

Yes. Under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), dual enrolled and early college students are eligible to receive emergency grant funds, if they met the awarding criteria described above.

If the grant amount received did not meet the expenses I incurred, can I apply for additional funds?

Additional funds will not be made available under an application process at this time.

How and when will I receive the funds?

Once the ARPA Act grants are processed by the Delta College Finance department, a check will be mailed to you by the first week of June 2023 at the address Delta College has on file for you or directly deposited if you have provided banking information to Delta College. Please log into your student account to verify the accuracy of your address information. If you need to make a change, please submit a change of address form.

How long do I have to cash my check?

You must cash your check within 60 days.  If you have not done so within those 60 days, your check will be voided and no replacement will be provided to you.

What if I owe Delta College for tuition or other expenses?

The full amount of the ARPA Act grants will be given directly to you in the form of a check.  The funds will not be applied to your student account, since that requires your written consent in advance.

Any outstanding balances owed remain the responsibility of the student.  While we would encourage you to consider using this funding to pay off any outstanding balance you owe to the College, it can also be used for other emergency costs that arise due to Coronavirus.
