YWCA Presents Annual Emerging Leader Award

Carolyn GrzegorczykMarch 30, 2018

Carolyn Grzegorczyk, Delta College Business Management student, was honored as a YWCA Emerging Leader on March 21 at an award ceremony at the Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw.

Only four awards are presented annually to one student from each of the four regional institutions of higher education: Central Michigan University, Delta College, Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University. Recipients of this award are women between the ages of 18–25 who demonstrate emerging leadership skills and have exhibited a philosophy of empowerment of women and commitment to the community through their character, accomplishments and activities.

Not only is Grzegorczyk an outstanding student, currently carrying a 3.853 grade point average, she has also been a student worker in the President’s Office of Delta College since August 2016 and participated in the Delta College Honors Program, Student Leadership Academy and Alternative Spring Breaks where she served as a student leader in 2018. Her high academic achievement placed her on the President’s List for winter 2017 and fall 2017.

In addition to her Delta College activities, Carolyn is community focused. She served on the committee for the 2017 annual AIDS Run and Walk in Bay City, organized an urban garden for the Bay City Dow Family YMCA and has volunteered at her church including choir.

According to Delta College President, Dr. Jean Goodnow, “I believe Carolyn is very deserving of this type of recognition. I have worked for community colleges for more than 40 years, and she is one of the most exceptional student workers I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with closely. I know she will succeed in any endeavor she pursues.”

Grzegorczyk plans to study abroad in Ireland this spring and is transferring to Northwood University this fall through the 3+1 program.
