Program Overview
Delta's Basic Fire Academy will help you prepare for the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council (MFFTC) certification as Fire Fighter I, II and hazardous materials operations officer. This program contains information and exercises that meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 standard.

About Delta's Program
Become a fire fighter. Respond to emergency calls, control and extinguish fires, protect life and property. Train to use fire-fighting equipment and be a first responder. As a student in this program, you will embrace a wide range of knowledge leading to the control or prevention of fire and the handling of hazardous materials.
You will gain skills and knowledge in many areas of fire science technology including:
- Firefighting strategies and tactics
- Building construction
- Hazardous materials
- Emergency responder
- Fire protection systems
- Fire protection hydraulics and water supply
Professional licensure
Program completers are eligible to be licensed Michigan firefighters. Each state has unique requirements to be a licensed fire fighter. Please contact the program coordinator for further information.

At the Teaching Learning Center, located in the Library, we offer tutoring on a wide variety of subjects, and help with developing study and learning skills. Most tutoring is on a walk-in basis but we do have some online tutoring options.
